Description
Sesame seeds - called simsim in Swahili - add an unusual nutty flavor to vegetable stews. This particular recipe is from Uganda.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 3 or 4 tablespoons water
- 1 10-ounce package frozen chopped spinach, thawed
- 1 tablespoon butter
Procedures
- In a heavy stewing pan, combine sesame seeds and water. Stir in spinach. Add more water if necessary; the amount of water used depends on how wet the spinach is. This mixture should cook in smallest amount of water possible. Bring to a boil. Simmer until seeds are cooked, 10 to 15 minutes.
- Add butter just before serving, with a starch.
- Serves 4.
