American butterfish, Peprilus triacanthus, is a butterfish of the family Stromateidae. It is also known as a dollarfish, shiner, skipjack, sheepshead, or harvestfish. It is closely related to a number of fish, including black cod, sablefish and Chilean sea bass.
Japanese butterfish, more commonly known as simply "butterfish", is a marine fish also known by such names as Melon Seed, Wart Perch (a rather unappetizing name despite the popularity of the fish in Japan), Ibodai (Japanese name).
