Golden syrup is a moderately thick cane syrup.

Light treacle is often an exact substitute, but may include light molasses.

Substitute with dark corn syrup, light molasses, cane syrup or maple syrup. A more exact substitution can be had by boiling down cane syrup, diluting true light molasses and adding sugar, or diluting a so-called "molasses" that has not had sugar extracted from it.
