Cherokee Casserole

  1. Brown the ground beef in the oil over high heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and reduce heat to medium; cook until tender.
  3. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme, oregano, bay leaf, crushed tomatoes, mushroom soup, and rice.
  4. Bring all to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Discard bay leaf.
  6. Spoon into a 1 and ½ qt. casserole dish.
  7. Sprinkle cheese over top of the casserole.
  8. Broil just until cheese melts.
