Apple Dumplings


Apple Dumplings [1] [2] are a sweet and warm breakfast treat, like an individual apple pie.


  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 canned buttermilk biscuits
  • 4 tsp ground cinnamon


  1. Warm oven to 375 degree F.
  2. Cut apples into 8 slices, peel, core and wash.
  3. Keep apple slices in water.
  4. Combine in a pan; the water, 3/4 cup sugar, butter and vanilla.
  5. Boil over medium heat.
  6. Break up biscuits for 2 layers.
  7. Place an apple slice in between a biscuit and place in casserole dish seam side down, until all apples are wrapped.
  8. Cover with hot sugar mixture.
  9. Combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon and layer on top of the dish.
  10. Bake for ~35 min, achieveing a golden brown colour.
